Victorian Bodice Vest – Ethnic Hungary/Poland Embroidery w/ Silk Apron
Victorian 1880-1890 / Victorian Bodice/ Embroidered Vest / Ethnic Costume
This Victorian bodice/vest and apron are ethnic costume pieces from Hungary/Poland are authentic .
The bodice / vest is black wool with silk embroidery thread in a floral pattern of rose pink , leaf green, lilac and lavender . It has a gray trim , hook and eye closures up front and a hook on back for skirt attachment. The back has “wings” and a racer back top .
The interior is a linen blend with metal stays -boning. Very structured .
The second piece is a long , black silk apron with matching embroidery. The apron has a cotton waistband and a mother of pearl button at back.
The bodice was measured across, laid flat, and doubled : 32″ bust/ 22″ waist/ 16.5″ length from top of shoulder to hemline. The apron measures: 27″ waistband length/ fabric 13″ across top x 31″ length.
The condition is good wearable . The bodice has a small tear on wool at bottom hook ( see pic) , a small brown spot on gray trim back ( see pic), a little wear along bottom trim. The apron has 2 tiny holes and some wear on waistband.
These pieces are immigrant wear brought to this country with a promise of a better life .
