Red Plaid Victorian Shirtwaist / X-Small. Here we have a wonderful bright red and black plaid Victorian shirtwaist from the 1880s .
The shirtwaist is a fine weight wool, it is the classic shirtwaist structure. The top is lined brown cotton with inner metal hook and eyes . The lining is loose from the wool in the front and sewn to the wool in the back . There are metal stays ( bones) in this completely around. On the front of the lining is a small penny pocket.
The wool layer is basically pleated and gathered in front and one side laps over the other but is open with no closures . The sleeves are long and narrow with some puff in shoulders and the back waist is tailored for a snug fit.
The condition is good for it’s age. It is wearable. It does have missing hook and eyes . The wool has 6 small holes ( see pics)
The shirtwaist was measured across and doubled laid flat: 30″ bust/ 24″ waist/ 20″ sleeves/ 11″ across shoulders inside seams/ 11″ bicep / 15″ length.
